When adding a new theses, use the Thesis template in Bibedit.
See the thesis metadata table for a full list of MARC fields that can be used.
Follow the usual conventions for author names. Theses should only have one author. Advisors are listed in 701 fields. Also follow the usual conventions for titles.
In the public note field (500__a) write the date the thesis was presented/defended using the format 99 Mon 9999 (e.g. 01 Jun 2015).
The 502 fields are specific to theses and should contain the degree type in the ‘b’ subfield, the ICN of the university in the ‘c’ subfield, and the year in the ‘d’ subfield. Degree type options will appear in a drop down when you open the subfield.
OA information should be added to the 540 field if available.
If you have access to a fulltext version of the paper and have the rights to upload it, add the link to the FFT field. Usually this is the case if a thesis is in an institutional repository. If instead of a link you have a copy of the fulltext on your computer, you can upload it using File Manager after you’ve submitted the record. File Manager can be found under the ‘Manage Files’ link in the brief or detailed view of the record.
Whether or not you upload the paper, include a link to the paper on its server in 8564_u and list the name of the server in 8564_y.
Note that some thesis records already in INSPIRE may not have all of the necessary MARC fields. Add any missing fields when curating older thesis records.
